Day LA

Day LA:

We had about a 26-hour layover in LA. we had a little Air Bnb for the night and it was a place that we could leave our bags the next day. We had tickets to see Rampage at the Chinese theater and other than that we hadn't expected much out of the city. We were pleasantly surprised.

After meeting the dogs that lived in the house we were staying in, we caught an Uber to the Aquarium of the Pacific.
This aquarium blew every other aquarium we had been to away. Not only was it much bigger than the other ones it was much more interactive.
For example, although it sounds strange, the touch tanks were extremely diverse and well done. Some of the tanks had Sharks others had moon Jellyfish, as well as tanks with fish and Stingrays.

Then there was the actual inside of the aquarium where there were huge walls of glass about 23 feet tall, with full reefs, as well as many of the tunnel tanks.
It took all of the best elements from the other aquariums and combined it into this one.

After the Aquarium, we went to the Brea tar pits.

While we were there, we, of course, saw tar but also many preserved skeletons of species that have been extinct for thousands of years. Some of the key species included, Mammoths(which I definitely did not touch), Sabertooth tigers, Ground Sloths, and about 162 Dire Wolves.

The reason that so many animals died here is that all of the big tar pits have a thin layer of water on top, making it the perfect trap for a thirsty animal.
The Dier Wolves amazed me the most, due to the sheer number of wolves that got stuck in the pits. I asked one of the scientists and they said that due to the clustering in which the wolves were found, it was believed that the wolves traveled in huge packs, and ended up falling in around the same time.

Finally, we went to the movie. The theater it self-was gorgeous, there was intricate carvings all along the walls as well as beautiful paintings on pretty much every available surface. The seats were very comfortable, and the screen was massive and the only IMAX theater in the world with a curtain before and after the movie.
That being said, the experience of the theater made the movie 10 times better. Seeing it in IMAX, but also in such a well made theater with extraordinary sound would make any movie shown there spectacular. After the movie, we went on a search for dinner and found Musso & Frank Grill purely by chance.
Musso & Frank Grill is the oldest restaurant in LA, clocking in at 100 years old. For an appetizer, I had the beef TarTar, which was served with a nice aioli as well as lettuce and a raw quail egg. It was divine. For my main course, I had the Duck Confit, which was the special of the night. My dad Had the Sanddabs. Both of which were exquisite. For dessert, I had a double espresso and key lime pie. My dad had the New York cheesecake.

All in all a perfect day in LA, which came almost entirely unplanned to us.
